- Virgin kraft paper (made from fresh wood fibers) has a smoother, more consistent surface.
- Recycled corrugated material, on the other hand, contains shorter, uneven fibers and tiny contaminants like dust, fillers, or ink residues.
These differences make the surface less uniform and less porous, which means your tape’s adhesive has a harder time finding grip. You’ll often notice the tape lifting at the edges or failing to seal tightly after a few hours — a common issue on boxes made from 80–100% recycled content.
So while sustainable packaging is a positive step, it often requires a higher-quality adhesive to achieve the same performance you’d get on a standard box.
