A lot of companies use either acrylic packing tape to seal boxes shut or Kraft paper tape. There are a few pros and cons to both types of tape, which will help determine which one is more suitable for your needs.
Acrylic tape is easy to dispense with a tape gun and is relatively cheap. It is usually sold in clear but is also available in a few different colors. The drawback of this tape is that it is not super strong, so you may have to tape the boxes two or three times to get a solid seal.
Kraft paper tape is super strong since it has reinforced nylon fibers that give you an indestructible seal each time. This is the tape that you see on Amazon packages, and is extremely hard to break open by hand. The downside is it's pricey in comparison with the acrylic tape. Secondly, you have to get a tabletop dispenser to activate the tape with water.
We prefer to acrylic tape for its ease of use; others prefer the water activated kraft reinforced tape because of its strength. Just remember when taping--Sticky side down!
